What Is Happening In Our Classroom?

In April ...

Math- Students will be continuing to practice various strategies for division facts. Students are working on building their fact fluency for division facts. We have also started to look at different strategies to divide larger numbers (with and without remainders).

Language Arts- The students will continue to practice and learn reading strategies (connecting, visualizing, questioning, inferring, and transforming) while they listen the "Odder" novel (class read aloud). The students will be guided and supported to complete an independent novel study later this term. In writing we will continue to explore paragraph writing. The students will explore writing stories using various strategies and creating poetry books. At the same time, we will continue to learn and practice new spelling patterns that can be used in our reading and writing assignments across the curriculum.

Science- The students are working on the solutions unit with Mrs. Jones.

Socials- The students this term will be briefly looking at Canadian Confederation to transition into the Canadian government unit.

French-  We will continue practicing at asking and answering questions in French. The students will be engaging in oral and written practice throughout the term.  Also, we will learn and practice communicating likes and dislikes in French. The unit will end with a summative project using the vocabulary learned during the entire school year.

Art/Career/Drama- The students will be engaging in different reader's theatre activities in the classroom this term. This will be time spent getting ready for our  reader's theatre performance that we will be putting together to present in June. We will have lots of opportunities through reader's theatre to learn and practice different dramatic forms.

Social and Personal Responsibilities- This will be ongoing learning throughout the school year. We all have jobs and responsibilities in the classroom and school. These allow us to learn and practice leaderships skills. Also, we will continue to work on adding mindful strategies to keep ourselves calm and learning most of the time.
