READ-A-THON IS COMING IN MARCH.

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 will soon be participating in our annual Read-A-Thon, during which they will enjoy an afternoon of reading in the library (accompanied by prizes, of course). Students may read library books, or books or magazines from home. Bringing a pillow, blanket, and/or stuffed animal will make this event even more special. Pledge envelopes will soon be sent home for this event; students can collect cash or cheques (payable to Rosedale Traditional Community School or RTCS). More information will be coming soon! Donations in the past years have helped purchase hundreds of new books and other resources for our library; this year, our non-fiction section is going through a major overhaul and needs additional funds, too. Thank you for your continued support!

SUPER READERS

At our last elementary assembly, we celebrated our first round of students who reached 100 nights of reading. Since then, more readers have achieved this target, and some students are even approaching 200 nights of reading. Way to go, students!

MIDDLE SCHOOL RESEARCH

Some middle school students have learned how to log into our library system to browse books; others have learned how to use research databases. At home, students can log into the system by going to the school website: https://rtcs.sd33.bc.ca and choosing Follett Destiny under Links.  On the next screen, they choose our school and login using their school credentials.

FEBRUARY  IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Black History Month is a time to celebrate and remember all the ways that Black Canadians have contributed to Canada’s history and culture, as well as reflect on past wrongs. Black History Month dates to 1926 in the United States; In 1995, Canada’s government also officially recognized February as Black History Month. In the library, Black authors, stories, and Canadian history will be highlighted.
