Our school counsellor plays an important role in supporting the social-emotional well-being, personal development, and educational success of our students. Counselling at school is primarily focused on short-term, responsive support and intervention when students are experiencing challenges that may be affecting their ability to learn, connect, or feel successful at school. Through conversation, problem-solving, skill development, and connection, the school counsellor helps students better understand and navigate the challenges they may be experiencing.

The school counsellor also plays an important role in prevention, early intervention, and long-term care and connection. This may include supporting students through transitions or difficult circumstances, collaborating with families and school staff, contributing to individualized support planning, and helping students develop strategies and connections that promote well-being and resilience. When a student requires more specialized or ongoing therapeutic support than the school can provide, the counsellor works with families to help connect them with appropriate community-based services and resources.
