Week of December 2 - 6:
- Wednesday, Dec. 3 - Friday, Dec. 6: Work blocks for argumentative paragraph writing, and creative writing (short story) for those who have finished their paragraph writing.
- Tuesday, December 3: Argumentative Paragraph Writing. Students are to draft a paragraph on the cause of the Black Death in Medieval Europe, following the outline in the Argument Map (attached below). Paragraphs must include background information, a claim ("I argue that the Black Death was caused by ______"), three pieces of evidence to support the claim, a counterclaim ("Opponents have argued that the Black Death was caused by ______"), a response to the counterclaim ("However, this cannot be true because _______"), and a concluding statement. Evidence should be pulled from their "History Mystery" Investigation Journal.

- Friday, November 29: Career Ed - Skills Inventory. See attached PDF below.
- Thursday, November 28: Unit Test - Middles Age. Students may prepare up to three 3x5-inch index cards with notes to use during the test on Friday.

- Monday, November 25 - Tuesday, November 26: ACT Assessment.
Week of November 18 - 22:
- November 21-22: Middle Ages Unit Review. See attached PDF below. Students should use their completed assignments to answer the questions on the Unit Review. (Questions are pulled from the following worksheets: Fall of Rome/Rise of Feudalism, Feudalism, Feudalism in Japan vs Europe, Religion in Feudalist Societies, Religion Around the World, The Crusades, The Black Death.)
- November 20: Continue work on Argument Map / Black Death Report.
- November 19: Argumentative Writing Practice. See attached review sheet below.
- November 18: Argument Map: Turning Investigations Into Reports! Based on their investigation results, students map out an argument on the cause of the Medieval Black Death. See attached "Argument Map" below. Students need their completed Investigation Journals to work on this assignment.
Week of November 11 - 15:
- November 15: The Black Death and the Decline of Feudalism. Please see the attached assignment, below.
- November 13-14: History Mystery: The Black Death. Students who are absent can access the materials and exhibits here (Note: Exhibit A is slide 1; Exhibit B consists of slides 3 and 4; Exhibit C is slide 8, Exhibit D consists of slides 5, 6, and 7; Exhibit E is slide 10; Exhibit F is slide 2; Exhibit G is slide 9; Exhibit H is the rat video on the main page. Also, please note that I do not show the Intro Video in class.) Completed Investigation Journals are due by Friday, Nov. 15th at the beginning of class.

Week of October 14 - 18:
- October 17-18: Readers' Theatre and writing activities.
- October 16: Review and Paragraph Puzzle (see attached "Paragraph Puzzle No. 1").
- October 15: Argumentative Writing/Elements of a Strong Argument. Write a paragraph asking parents/guardians/teachers for a privilege or item.
Week of October 7 - 11:
- October 11: Writing focus, using Fall writing prompts. Options: Write a conversation (can be a text exchange!) between a turkey and a pumpkin about the month of October; describe a Thanksgiving meal from the perspective of a utensil (fork, spoon, etc.); write a speech for a turkey urging people to eat tofurkey for Thanksgiving OR start a spooky short story.
- October 9-10: Text evidence review and practice. See the attached article, "Did St. Patrick Get Rid of the Snakes in Ireland?"
- October 8: "Show What You Know of the Middle Ages" - review class. Students choose either the "Creative Line Art" assignment or "Postcard from the Past" assignment to show facts they have learned about the Middle Ages. See assignments attached below.
- October 7: Religion in European Feudal Societies. See the attached "Religion in Feudal Societies" worksheet.
Week of September 30 - October 4:
- October 4: Comparison of feudalism in Europe and Japan. See the attached "Feudalism - Japan vs. Europe" worksheet, due Monday, Oct. 7th.
- October 2-3: Text Evidence Stations (small group work). Station 4 reading ("Squirrels") and worksheet attached below. See also the attached "READ Strategy Sentence Starter" notes.
- October 1: R.E.A.D. Strategy for Text Evidence. See the attached Doodle Notes! Complete the attached worksheets below (learning stations one and two).
Week of September 23 - 27:
- September 23-26: The Witness Blanket. Together we are exploring the experiences of residential school Survivors shared through this large scale work of art. We are building an understanding of how these experiences continue to impact Indigenous Peoples and the steps that we can take in our efforts for reconciliation. Reflections are to be made in the form of written paragraphs and artwork (templates are available in the classroom).
Week of September 16 - 20:
- September 19-20: Terry Fox. See reading comprehension assignment below.
- September 18: Feudalism Lab and Lab Reflection. See reflection sheet attached below.
- September 17: Feudalism - Overview of the feudal system in medieval Europe. See assignment attached below.
- September 16: Fall of Rome - Overview of the fall of Rome, which led to the rise of feudalism and marks the beginning of the middle ages. See assignment attached below.
Week of September 9 - 13:
- September 12-13: One Day Geography atlas assignment. See assignment and atlas pages in attachments below.
- September 11: When In History? lab. Students analyze "artifacts" in the classroom, trying to determine which time period each one is from.

Practicing: Students are expected to practice 15 minutes, 4-5 times per week, for a total 60-75. Practice records will be checked in class on a weekly basis.
